This Week in Lotus

Through this site's referrers I just learnt of the This Week in Lotus podcast. I don't normally listen to podcasts, purely because I don't have the time and find it distracting if I try and work while listening to them, but, as I knew my name would crop up in them, I just downloaded them. I'm vain like that.

What surprised me was that they didn't, as I'd feared, portray me as the attention-seeker I sometimes worry I might come across as (I'm quite sensitive (another un-manly trait of mine) and upset easily). Instead they took the things I've said and had a rational and balanced discussion around them.

The podcasts are worth a listen if you have the time, as they talk about much more besides things I've brought up recently.

For the record though I am not moving to SharePoint. I am still a Domino developer. Perhaps one day I will be purely a Microsoft developer. It's much more likely I'll just be both though.

What I am doing is taking a look down an alternative path. Perhaps I'll turn back. Perhaps I won't. In the interim I'll still be undertaking any Domino work new or existing customers approach me with. It's all about the bills.

At least with those guys talking about it, there might be a chance IBM will listen and see what they could be loosing globally.

  1. "It's all about the bills."

Somehow that doesn't seem to be sinking in for some people.

  2. As one of the hosts of TWiL, I'm glad we didn't upset you and I think everyone (including you) "got" the intent of the piece. If we can fully explorer the "why" we maybe able to rectify the "current situation" as outlined not just here, but also by JonVan and on Ed's blog.

And I'm glad you are "still" a Domino developer ;)

If you wish to join the panel at any time just DM me on Twitter @DarrenDuke or email me. In fact episode 4 this coming Friday is going to be focused on Ed's question "What else can we do?". I think you'd have a lot to offer to the conversation.

As (I think) I said on the podcast, you have to look after your shareholders. Sometimes you happen to be the majority (or in many cases, the only) shareholder.

      Hi Darren,

I was chatting to Stuart yesterday. He asked if I'd join the call this Friday, but I think I'll decline (could you let him know please? I can't find an email address for him).

The reason isn't that I wouldn't have much to say on the matter. More that I just don't feel that passionate on the topic of "What else can we do?". I can only talk with any conviction on things like my love of Flex or general development stuff.

      Jake

Who knows, you may be the next Microsoft Blogger of the year recipient in a few years.

I doubt that very much. Have you seen ScottGu's blog! Puts mine to shame.

  3. Have you seen what you've started over at Ed Brill's?
