Friday Fun Challenge

On the topic of web-form spam and the ever-evolving ways in which I deal with it, I made a change to Rockalldesign.com's Contact Us page so that it sends me a daily digest of the entries made. It gets used so little for the purpose it was intended that it's safe to check once a day if a real person has used it. Most won't mind waiting 24 hours for a reply, I'm sure.

Anyway, here are the email addresses of the "people" who posted on Rockall's contact "us" page over the last 24 hours. Rather kindly, I always think, the spammer make it pretty obvious it's spam.

The Challenge

Your challenge is to make a short story that includes all of the words used below and in the order they appear!

present@rain.com
system@claim.com
shine@sheet.com
five@such.com
milk@tail.com
ground@character.com
fruit@safe.com
island@search.com
difficult@during.com
problem@felt.com
carry@size.com
pick@warm.com
while@wind.com
believe@back.com
bell@difficult.com
decimal@invent.com
since@state.com

Extra point for anybody who can make it topical and about Michael Jackson (the word "five" is in there, how hard can it be!?). The less extra words you use to pad out those above the better.

Comments

  1. How about this then?? Couldn't get every pair of words together

They were all there present under the rain-less sky outside the hospital waiting to see if the stories the news system claimed were true. The light of the music industry that did shine, sheets of music he had created, the death of the star of the Jackson Five, such a loss. The Entertainment websites were milking the tail and the news rooms that had ground down his character during the trial and with wild reporting declared him a fruit, now with safe reporting guidelines waiting for official confirmation of his death before releasing it to the world.

He had lived in his own little island searching for something to fill the void of the difficult relationship with his father during his childhood and the problems he now felt. His career had carried him to heights the size of which we are likely to never see again and it's not hard to pick the warmth of feeling being spread by his fans, many who believed he was back with the concerts in July. The sale of his Neverland ranch and it's Tikerbell atmosphere was a difficult time for him and family and his fortune previously in the millions was now down to a decimal point, however his attempt to re-invent himself may have turned this around, however since his sudden demise it's unclear as to the state of his wealth.

It’s my wife’s birthday tomorrow and I’ve still not bought a present and now it’s pouring with rain and I don’t want to go outside. I’m not usually this disorganised – My present buying system, which I don’t claim to have invented, usually involves looking in the jeweller’s window and seeing which of the rings on offer has the most shine and then feeling disheartened when I consult the price sheet to see which I can actually afford. Five years’ running what I can afford has actually been very little – such is life. Some weeks I hardly have enough left at the end of the week to buy a pint of milk – let alone a ring. But pity will get me nowhere – I know later today I’ll be chasing my tail, covering a lot of ground trying to find out just what present really suits my spouse’s character. But, of course, it’s not just about the present – modern women expect a nice cooked meal too – pasta followed by a fruit salad is my usual speciality – a safe bet. I’m so predictable! Maybe this year I’ll just try something completely different – a trip to an island paradise but my search will be difficult – where to go at such short notice? Our last holiday was a disaster with a hurricane during the second week causing a bit of a problem – in fact, we both felt relieved to get back home. If I carry on procrastinating though the present will never get bought. Perhaps a new dress would work? But what if I get the wrong size or pick the wrong colour? Plus, do I really want to be trailing around the shops when it’s so warm inside while the wind blows outside? I often wonder if the rich and famous have similar present buying problems. I believe a millionaire like Donald Trump or Michael Jackson probably have someone to pick things up and take them back for them. Wouldn’t that be great? Actually, that rings a bell – the shop in the mall has a mystery shopper service to pick things out for difficult customers. Of course the price for the service has quite a few noughts after the decimal point. Maybe I should invent a similar service, become a millionaire and not have to worry about any of this. Since I started writing to state my plight I could have got this done – maybe I could just rewrap last years’ present?

I like it! Didn't think anybody would bother, so pleasantly surprised.

Not exactly as short as I'd had in mind though.

New rule: Please place an ^ (or something equally as obvious) next to each keyword so we can see where they are.

    Present(^) rain(^) shakes our mundane system(^)

Some claim(^) to weep, others rejoice the shine(^)

The sheet(^) is now broken, five(^) no longer

Such(^) times due hurt, less milk(^) to drink

His tail(^) is still, His tale not hate

    Our ground(^) rings out, a character(^) gone

His fruit(^) alone, they will be safe(^)

Never island(^) grows silent, another search(^) ends

These difficult(^) days during(^) media parades

Whose problem(^) we felt(^), and all glared judgement

Carry(^) no more, prince pop of great size(^)

We will pick(^) up your soul, still warm(^) from love

Then charge through the storm, while(^) wind(^) reprieves

We do believe(^), our memory is back(^)

    Some bell(^) sings, it's difficult(^) song somber

No decimal(^) limit, timeless you did invent(^)

Not another since(^) king Michael, rest eternal in loved state(^)

Very poetic John. Gold star awarded to that man.

  2. The Duke of Code in the land of Store wanted to ^present something unusual to his people, he wanted to give them a ^rain ^system that ^claimed to allow the sun to ^shine and make light. One ^sheet of rain after another ^five in a row and ^such.

Instead of rain though ^milk fell instead flowing like a ^tail swinging on a cow rubbing the ^ground forming a strange ^character that resembled a piece of ^fruit. So carefully they copied the image onto a piece of paper and ^safely it was sent to a far off ^island. However, during the voyage the paper was lost so a frantic ^search was under way. Not having this document, created a ^difficult situation ^during the next few days. The ^problems that not having this document would produce, would be ^felt by all.

After many hours of searching the Duke’s men thought they had to ^carry the weight of the world in something the ^size of a piece of paper. Fortunately they realized that when they stopped to ^pick it up, the ^warm ale made them fill strange for a ^while before and ready for the ^wind to be in the sails they ^believed they had left it ^back at ^Bell Island. So they turned around and ^made the ^difficult trip again.

The sailors feared the enraged Duke, because he could bring them within a ^decimal of their lives. So they knew they needed to ^invent a story. ^Since their travel would be so long they were like Michael Jackson, living in the ^state of denial.

  3. Fun? Ok, why not,

Here's a terrible set of couplets for ya.

The present rain reflects my mood

    The system he claim(s) misunderstood

He'd shine just like a crisp white sheet

The Jackson five were such a treat

The press would milk a tail of hurt

And ground his character in the dirt

He was a fruit cake safe to say

An island search(ing) for peace one day

It was well difficult during his trial

With his problem(s) he felt he couldn't smile

To carry a burden of that size

I'd pick it he didn't feel warm inside

And while the wind blew his hopes away

He always believe(d) he'd be back one day

The bell(s) toll at this difficult time

Decimal, invent?, can't find a rhyme

And since I'll state this poem must cease

    Michael Jackson rest in peace
