Site Tweak: Recent Comments Added to Homepage

Looking for somewhere to use my "time ago in words" code I decided to add a list of recent comments to the site's homepage, which makes for a useful addition as well as giving me somewhere to actually show you the code in use.

If you visit the site's homepage from now on (assuming any of you still read that way?) you'll see the 5 most recent blog responses listed on the top right-hand side, along with a rough idea of how long ago they were written.

Hopefully you'll find it useful.

While 9 out of 10 new comments are on things I've written in the last day or two there are still people who respond to blogs from within the archive. Apart from people reading it via the comments feed there's only really me who sees the comment in order to read and reply to it in a timely manner. With this new addition to the homepage you're more likely to get answers from others on posts from the past.

  1. this is a very nice feature and helps us regular readers to follow at least some of the comments on old articles.

    Good work!

Thanks Mark. Glad you like it and agree it's useful. Did you post so you could be top of the list? Sorry I just knocked you off ;o)

No, I want to be top of the list !

  2. That's AWESOME. I've got our new intranet site about ready to go and I didn't even think about that for maybe the most used links or maybe newest added links on the home page or something.

Check your site css, when I see the site on a lower screen resolution the content just goes below the right navigator (IE though)
