Demo of the Alternative to the ?DocumentDelete URL Command
Back to the alternative to ?DeleteDocument that I mentioned earlier in the week. I've added a demo of its use to the (soon to be released?) DEXT application.
To see it in use do this:
- Go to the calendar view
- Make sure you login using the link to the top right (as "dext admin", password "dext").
- Open an entry from the calendar.
- Follow the "Delete this document" link.
- Press the delete button and, hey presto, it's gone.
- Return to the calendar view to make sure.
Now go and try deleting a document by hacking the URL and adding a ?DeleteDocument call. You can't can you!
You want a download don't you though? Hmm, not sure how to go about that. You see I've not decided how to distribute DEXT yet. You can probably tell from looking at it that it's a concoction of the various demo downloads I have scattered about. The idea of DEXT is that it brings it all together in one place. Whenever I want to make another demo available I add it to DEXT instead of having to create a new database from scratch.
Rather than give it away I'm contemplating asking for a nominal charitable donation by way of an annual subscription to downloading it. Amount and details of which I am yet to decide.
For now though you can see the concept of the delete agent in this LSS file.

Interesting. One note, once deleted the app should take you back to where you were working before choosing to delete the record. At least back to the calendar view that you were in for instance.

Very cool idea. One question/criticism is that I notice that it only deletes the document and its immediate responses; not all descendants. Is that intentional?
Lance and Charlie. Both of the things you're suggesting are possible and easy make happen. It's just that it wasn't a requirement when I originally came up with the solution.
I'll try and remember to add both to DEXT at some point.
