Thirty Three Years Young Today

Today is my birthday and I am now 33 years old. For a laugh I just went back through blog entries for this day over the past 6 years and found this gem from 2002:

27 years old! Definitely the wrong side of 25 now. Always said I'd marry by the time I was thirty. Better make it 35... any nice single girls out there who want to meet an unemployed nerd?

Turned out I was 31 when I married. Little did I know then that I already knew my wife. Little did I know what a great wife she'd make.

Having a wife means I no longer need to buy my own presents. This year she bought me a bottle of my favourite whisky and a pair of wellies.

A pair of wellies? Yeah. If that ain't bad enough -- they're matching his-n-hers wellies. How cool are we going to look out on walks together? God, I'm getting old.

Anyway, nothing poignant to write about really. Just thought I'd post something. Unlike other birthdays in the past I'm too busy to have the day off so I'd better get back to earning a living.

    Happy Birthday Jake.

I got wellies for Christmas! (but then I am 41 after all)

  2. Happy birthday Jake !

Being a whiskey man myself I have to ask the question:

Do you take your dram with or without water?

A couple of whiskies I recommend are (that's if you havent found them already)

Caol Ila - oily & peaty , well priced

Brora - awesome! rare as hen's teeth and cost's a fortune (my all-time fave)

    regards

    Alan

    Thanks all!

Alan. With a little water normally. Of the... ahem... frozen variety. Yeah, I know you shouldn't have it "on the rocks" but I just like it with one ice cube in. Starts off by making it cool (which I like) and ends up being slightly watered.

Sometimes I'll have it straight up though. Never added water though. That just seems weird.

  3. Happy Birthday Jake

  4. Jake - The adding water thing is weird, but I was introduced to it by a Scot in his whiskey shop many years ago. The idea is that it 'opens up' the bouquet and spreads the flavour around the palate. Took me a while to get used to it, now I can't drink it any other way. (plus it lasts longer !!) It especially works well on the 'peaty' malts imho.

Ahh.... I've turned into me dad......ttfn

  5. Have a good one Jake.

  6. Happy Birthday jake...

Happy Birthday, Jake! I've no idea what wellies are, but I'm sure you both look great in them. :-)

Hope you have a great day.

If you really want to know Karen then google will help. Otherwise, I'll just leave it to your imagination.

  7. Happy Birthday, you old man you!

  8. Arrrgh - his and hers. This is the mark of pure evil. Aaah! The matching parkas! Aaaah! I told my dearly beloved that that would be one cause for immediate divorce. Her one is if she ever sees me with those plastic adidas shower flip-flop things.

    (Shudder)

Why do Europeans in general seem to look down on people who put ice in their whiskey? In America, it is a commonly accepted practice (with the exception of Scotch). I don't like having my whiskey any other way (but when it comes to Scotch I'll limit myself to only one ice cube).

  12. Happy Birthday, Jake. I've got you beat by a couple years (my 35th birthday is later this month). I don't know how you feel about it, but it's just too darn close to 40 for me. Well, here's hoping you have a great one!

Happy Birthday, Jake. Man, 33 is just a kid!

I turned 59 in December and dreading the big SIX OH just around the corner. Got married at 35 ... best thing I ever did, too. Starting a six month contract at Applied Micro Devices writing C++ and Rubi to test the CPUs from the production line. Guess I won't be doing quite as much Notes work for a while. :)

    Many happy returns, mate!

    Peace, Love, Laugher,

    Rob:-]

  13. Another Rob chiming in here, to wish you the very best.

Still have fond memories of that night at Universal during Lotusphere a few years back ...

    Happy Birthday!

Sorry to chime in late - been a bit wrapped up. Happy belated best, Jake! Two years further down the line from you, I can tell you to start bracing yourself for more mysterious aches and pains. Adam was 33 when he was booted from the garden, wasn't he? It's all down hill from here. Yep. Best pick out a nice sweater vest and pipe now so you can properly look old. ;-) Many happy returns!

I feel old now, as I'm exactly one week older than you !
