Ext.ND JavaScript Libray - Podcast

If you listen carefully to this week's Taking Notes podcast you'll hear my name mentioned a couple of times.

They're talking about the new project to create a Domino JavaScript framework, which is cleverly called Ext.ND (pronounced "extend") and adds a Notes/Domino namespace to the Ext framework. Hence, it's called Ext dot ND.

The project has the support and backing of Jack Slocum — the genius behind Ext. If it all works out this should be an amazing tool for us all. Hopefully my DExt demo gave you a taster of what's possible. And that only scratches the surface.

Anyway, for now, if you're interested, have a listen to the podcast and watch this space for future news. Whether or not I myself can dedicate the time needed, there are enough people involved now to ensure something good comes out of it all. Exciting stuff.

  1. Hi Jake,

Wish you could have made the podcast. However, the silence in the blog world is a little scary. Rich and I have both blogged about the podcast and the new Ext.nd project and the fact that the three of us (along with some others) are partnering with the Ext team to combine our individual pieces of work into Ext.nd. Does this silence mean no one approves of this? Or is everyone just busy this week and don't have time to reply to our posts. Time will tell I guess.

    Jack

I wouldn't say scary Jack. From what I've seen on the ExtJS forums, there are folks working directly with the library with Domino. There's a lot of interest out there as you can tell by the read count on the Domino threads.

Currently, I'm on the learning curve with the Ext code and just keeping up with the pace of the changes is challenging enough right now. I'll look forward to contributing somehow when I'm further along and time allows.

My interest is with the dynamic forms and how those can be created by an end user using Domino and Ext.. Sort of similar to how Quickplace was in release 1.0.

Was "out of the country" Jack. Well, in Wales at least.

The thing I've found in the years I've been running codestore is never to expect a certain response to anything as you'll always be disappointed. It doesn't mean people don't want it. It just means it doesn't really prompt a response.

What they really want is the goods. They want something to download and use. They'll have to wait for that though...

  2. Have you checked Bob Obringer's site lately? He's working on some similar tools.

Now that everyone's naming a Domino solution with Ext., I want to publicly declare dibs on the following names:

    DExter

    Extrude

    Extra

NExt (sorry Jobs, you had a try at it)

    Extoll

    TExt

I'll give you the Ext.ND, but seeing how Ext is already short for 'YUI- extension/extend', you only get half marks for creativity. :)

  3. Excited to know another project for programming Domino more easily.

I'd like to dive into that project for more information.

  4. Hi, Jake, this is great, please keep us informed about the project!
