Ytria at LotusSphere 2006

This month I was hoping to be in Florida for LotusSphere 2006. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it because of work commitments.

The plan was for me to be a Booth Babe again. Remember in 2004 I was hanging out at the Peerwire booth? The idea was simple: they pay for me to fly over and I attract people to the stand, eager to meet me. It kind of worked, I think. Either way they liked having an extra pair of hands and it was good for me to meet so many of my, dare I say it, fans (I was actually asked to sign a t-shirt ;-).

This year my hosts were to be Ytria. They've got a suite of developer tools and will be demoing them at stand 219. Although I won't get the free trip to Florida this year I did get a free set of their tools to play with. It ain't all bad.

Their ScanEz application is now on my list of can't-live-without pieces of software. Anything built by actual developers to help fill the gaps in Domino Designer has to be a good thing.

I'll talk more about ScanEz another day and try and compare it with the copy of TeamStudio I was given recently. Until then I have lots of work to do and can only dream of the sun.

I love the ScanEZ product & have been using it now for 3 years & it is a great tool for developer's. It you buy any Domino related tool, I can definitely recommend it as it has saved my neck many times! It is well worth the cost. I use it almost every day for enhancing & modifying db's & debugging issues.

  1. Jake - Hey, if you have some spare time and want to come hang out at the Genii Software booth too (Ped #604), I'd be happy to have you. I'm showing some neat integration with CoexEdit and portals (using Kryos Systems' TitanWeb product) that I'd like to show you, and I'd be happy to give you a free license if you'd like one.

You misread the post Ben. I won't be there this year. Thanks for the offer though. If there's a free license you want to give me, I'd be happy to give it a go.

I've been using the Ytria suite of tools for a long time now. I still find new things ScanEZ can do on a regular basis.

I also like ActionBarEZ a lot because it takes away the pain of changing the action bars properties in views and forms: they can be all modified at once!

Too bad you're not able to make the trip, Jake. I've never been to LotusSphere myself but worst case, a trip in Florida in winter time is always a good thing. ; )

Keep up the good work in 2006 and may this year bring more cool articles and loads of interesting work for Rockall Designs.

Oh and I know TeamStudio tools as well and I think they are complementary tools.

My 2 "can't work without them" tools are Ytria ScanEZ and TeamStudio Configurator.

    : )

  2. talking about Domino Addons: we are getting iCodex Integrate People this year, this is a really amazing tool. You can do whatever you want to with your clients and although it is more an administrative tool it is really good to know that you can develop any Code and let it run on the users client when he logs on.

Tools like ScanEZ or Teamstudio Configurator are nice to have but you can also get along with design synopsis or NotesPeek in some cases. But with iCodex a new world is opening up for you.

  3. Ytria has made my life in Domino so much easier. I use all of the tools and it cuts down the time spent on the more mundane work by, I reckon, 80%.

Agreed, ScanEZ is suberb and every Lotus Notes consultant should have a copy.

  4. Jake - All those conditionals... "would have been" "were to be". I'm a busy guy. Sorry!

Anyway, sure' I'll send you a license. Send me your server's full name and I'll send you a CoexEdit license. You want Midas too, or is that way too geeky?

I've been using Ytria's scanEZ since the first release. Jake is right, it's one of those tools that once you use, you can't live without it. I use it for the live editing capabilities, always for designing and specially for debugging applications. Hard to imagine that such a small application can do so much.

TeamStudio Configurator is the other tool that I use and is well worth the cost. In all fairness, both tools complement each other. Ytria scanEZ and TeamStudio Configurator are a must for Lotus Designers.

Can wait to hear your review on it! Keep up the good work.
