New Article and LotusSphere 2005

First things first, there's a new article as of yesterday. It's not one of my best, but it's better than nothing. It covers the theory of customising the HTMLArea editor. It could have been twice as long but I know that's not what you guys want. All you want is the sample database, don't you!? Well, it's there and includes the code for adding your own buttons to the toolbar. Remember the DocLink icon I was talking about?

Now, LotusSphere 2005. Remember I was there earlier this year? Well, there's a chance I might be there next year too. I'm not allowed to say much, but picture this - me, a stage, a crowd, a PowerPoint presentation and a bag of nerves. You get the idea?

I'm still not 100% sure I want to put myself through the ordeal of public speaking. Us Brits aren't as good at it as other nations. I've done it before, but never on the same scale. What I normally find is that I'm nervous in the run-up and then fine once I get on a role.

Talking at LotusSphere gets your entry paid for, but it doesn't get you to the place. Do I want to pay for the travel and accommodation? Not really. What would sway me would be if another company offered to meet these costs in return for me being their "booth babe" for the week.

There are so many ifs and buts. The only reason I would do it would be so I could say I had. Another one of those "looks good on the CV" things. Personally, I don't think much to these seminars as a way of learning. What can I tell 200 people in an hour that I can't share with the whole world, virtually. Of the three or four presentations I went to at this year's do - the only ones I thought looked interesting - I walked out of two of them after about ten minutes.

So, to those who've asked if I'm going to be there, the answer is a big maybe. It would be great to do some more networking, which I really enjoyed last time round, but not if there's a cost involved. If I have to pay to go the States I can think of much better places to go than Disney World! In fact I may well be in New York in January anyway, for my big three-oh.

  1. If you buy your air fare now, you can probably get it around $300... check around for deals. I'm sure there will be many readers attending who you know who would be willing to split the cost of hotel as well.

Still, "Booth Babe" is probably your best bet. ;-)

  2. There are strcit rules against using scantily-clad booth babes this year, so you'll have to bundle up....

  3. I wonder if those jeans with holes ( {Link} ) that you were talking about last year would disqualify you as a booth person, based on that "scantly clad" rule?

Is that photo album new? I've seen plenty of online albums, but that one is fantastic (oh, and the photos are great too ;-). Sorry to veer off topic, but I clicked on the "I was there" link and saw the album.

New? In what way? I've used it for a while now. It runs on Coppermine {Link} and is easy to setup and use.

Okay. I meant new to you. Thought I'd seen all of your sites, but apparently not. Thanks for the info. Like I said, I like that format.
