Getting There With the Office

A rushed blog before I head off for the weekend. Progress on the office is slow. I've added an extra socket and now await the plasterer. With any luck he will come this weekend while I am away. That's if he keeps his word this time. All that's left then is to whitewash the walls and furnish it with desk, chairs and shelves.

Last week I applied to have the landline here ADSL enabled via my preferred supplier, Pipex. What a pain though. First thing I had to do was cancel the account I already had with them in London, incurring a £50 cancellation charge. Then you have to apply for another one in your new home, incurring a £30 connection charge. Then you have to wait 10 days while the ever-reliable BT convert and test the line. While you go through the process the virtues of dialup connections become apparent.

They tell me line will be ADSLd by the 7th May. Next Wednesday. All being well, everything should be back to normal in just over a week. For now I am off to Dorset for the weekend. About as far away as you can get from Sunderland without a passport...

Ah, so refreshing to hear that ADSL is just as difficult to get connected on the other side of the world as it is here!

It is rather annoying to us on the continent, where getting an adsl connection takes 6-8 weeks (in the Netherlands)%)

You should try Freedom to Surf ({Link} same monthly subscription charge and no connection fee!

    Hi

I got my ADSL today and half expected there to be a delay, nope, everything went according to plan!

Half of my motiviation for getting this was sites like this! I have been developing in Notes for about a year and hadnt really paid much attention to the web side (no requirement). Having seen your work and reading your posts, it has inspired me to learn more about it (hence the fast web connection - well any excuse!!).

Good luck with your move and keep up the work on this site. Its great!

I am considering taking pipex to court over the cancellation fee. The issue being that you (or I) did not want to cancel the account but were forced to be Pipex. I have advice already which suggests I have a good case. I am also writing to BBC's watchdog program to highlight the issue.

    Interested?
