Books, books and blarticles
A few things today and all of them nothing to do with PHP:
Lee Powell kindly sent me a copy of his new book, LotusScriptors Plain Simple Guide To The Lotus Notes C++ API. Having skimmed through it I can see how useful this could be and I've already sprung an idea for my very own server addin task. If, like me, you've tried to get in to the C++ API in the past but have been put off by the lack of documentation, give this a go. A nice and simple introduction. Thanks Lee.
Talking of books, Mike and I just walked down to the bookshop and bought the book I mentioned yesterday. It's a huge 1400 pages. Looks worth it so far though. There's not nothing that isn't not in this book.
Jeff Condon of IBM has shared this useful link with us all. Most of it's your normal stuff but some of the articles and tuturials look interesting. So, there you go, who said I'm not talking about Domino 6 enough?!

Ah yes, the "blarticles" -- they're very good! We particularly enjoyed the one entitled "What The Hell Am I Doing?" -- it touched something very deep... ;-)

Does anyone know if this book will be available in North America? It's only listed on the Amazon UK site.
Yeah, bummer. That Lee Powell book is one I would have bought *today*, right now, well five minutes ago actually. Oh well. Not only is it only on the uk version of Amazon, its still in pre-ordering status.
If you're itching to write a server addin task, but you don't want to learn the C++ API, you can always try writing it in Java (see http://www.nsftools.com/tips/JavaTips.htm#javaaddin for an example).
Not that there's anything wrong with using the API, of course. I certainly use the C API quite a bit...
amazon.co.uk ship world wide including the US, just like amazon.com.
Basically the book came off the press late last week. Amazon received them this week. I've called them and they said that the book is available but the system has not been updated for some reason. They are looking into this.
I've had a lot of positive feedback from the book in the few months since it's been published on Amazon.co.uk, all with the exception of the price.
Which frankly I agree with you at $29.99 it's steep (Amazon alone take 60% of the retail).
For this reason I've decided to cater for a download of an electronic version of the book in standard Adobe pdf format for $5.95, and allow those on a budget, to bypass production costs and Amazon's fees.
The book is still available in hard copy from Amazon as well electronically fromhttp://www.notesapi.com
