Code dissection

The best way to learn any new skill, be it anything from Domino to Java, is to first get a grasp of the fundamentals and then dive in with a full dissection of any examples applications you can get your hands. Once you've got your hands on the suitable code it's a simple case of taking it apart, piece by piece. This is made so much easier with something like PHP where so much is made open source. For example, the amazing phpBB Bulletin Board. It only took me about half an hour of tweaking to set up a working version of my own. I now have all the code required to a forum that makes the Notes Discussion template look like a tame little puppy. Scalpel please nurse...

Actually I think this is the absolute best thing about notes, it is so easy learn , the helpfiles are better than any , full of examples and then you also have the standard templates to look at and get ideas from. The worst thing about begining to use Java in notes is that the standard Java help does not have any examples of how or in which circumstances you would use this or that method.
