i am getting the error "the remote server is not a known tcp/ip host when i log in to lotus notes. please give me the solution

Add the IP and servername in the HOSTS file. C:\%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Edit it with notepad. Fixes it everytime. Probably could be fixed with proper DNS/WINS setup on the routing server.

Hi,

Usually, we get this type of error when we are trying to access the server from the notes client for the first time. One way is to add the Domino Servername/IP Address to the host file and give a try.

While accessing the server from notes client, try with the ip address initially... this should work fine.

Create a connection document in notes using the server IP address.

Navigate to File > Mobile > Server Phone Numbers

Then click on New > Server Connection

Fill in the Connection Type, select TCP/IP and enter the server name.

Under the Advanced Tab, enter the servers IP address under the Destination Server Address.

Save and close, and should be OK now!

If you have this message send by the router, modify the host file as such :

123.123.123.123 domino/org

If you just do :

123.123.123.123 domino

It's going to ping (and nping) but it's not going to send the mail !!!

Even after adding the ip address/ domian name in the host file and making a new connection in the server phone numbers, I am still getting the error.

Any help appreciated.

go to the notes.ini file and delete from the 3rd row down. It will make it like a new install and go through the wizard. I don't know what it is causing this error

try..

1.File - Preferences - User Preferences

2.Click on Ports

3.Highlight TCP and click Trace

On the Destination field => type "servers name.domain" (make sure they can ping this FQDN) or use IP of Server instead

click Trace.

4. then try again ..

Fought this problem this morning with a laptop and resolved it by deleting the cache.ndk file from the Notes\data directory. Give that a try.

I had the same problem and I did all the above solutions but didnt work.Finally I noticed that my Norton Internet security was enabled.I disabled the internet security and did the MAGIC.Wow it works.....

Delete the connection document in notes using the server IP address.

Navigate to File > Mobile > Server Phone Numbers

Then click on the existing connection that is giving you the error.

R-click and delete.

In the location properties check if the server name is specified correctly.

If needed add the server name and ip sddress to hosts file.

This solved the problem for me.

We've seen that usually this occurs when a user is not connected to the internet (no TCP/IP connection)

Hi all,

Another situation where I resolved this error is, when I did not mention the Location in the connection document in notes/administrator. Try this if needed.

Try to open a database in a notes client. If the servername does not give you access, try the given IP-address.

open the server. Windows start -> run -> cmd

IPconfig

By using the ip-adrdress a new connection document will be created which will grant access.

Formerly I was using lotus note under windows XP platform. Recently I changed into working on Vista. A problem occurs. I cannot make any new message or reply. The only way to write my message is to write it in plain formate and no draft can be saved. Please advise how to improve the situation.

Found Hurberts solution worked but be careful on which slash you use. Use / (not \ like i did) :)

This error occurs in my client if I switch between locations. To fix this error I need to edit location document, change anything just to switch on ModifiedSinceSaved property, and then "Save and Close" (something is being refresed then (?)). It's extremely stupid but works. You can write an agent that does it automatically.

I had the same issue but mine was a test environment, not connected to Internet, however Lotus Notes LOCATION setting (bottom right corner) was set to 'Internet'. Switching that to 'Office' let me send a test email from Notes.

The problem started to happen when my computer was out of the company's domain.

After following the recomendation above, I solved the issue putting the servers IPs at c:\windows\systems32\drivers\etc\hosts

I am still out of the domain but it is working fine
